In the summer of 2024, Westminster (at the recommendation of the Associate Pastor Nominating committee) voted to create a new pastoral position: Associate Pastor for Young Families. This position serves to walk alongside parents as they deepen their own faith journeys while raising children. We work closely with Sophie and the children’s ministry, but our primary responsibility is to you as parents.
Over the past year, and with the support of Donovan and the ministry staff, we have thrown lots of spaghetti at the wall, experimenting with ways to support parents of children birth through fifth grade in their own faith journeys as well as that of their families. We anticipate more of the same in year two. The Young Families ministry has been an exciting addition at WPC, but we are just one part of a much larger family that makes up Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Like in 1 Corinthians 12, our church is very much one body with many parts: children’s ministry, christian formation, youth ministry, congregational care, worship, mission, etc. We operate under the assumption that the most faithful young families ministry is done in relationship with the larger church in all that we do. Donovan and I hope that you will get to know all of the ways WPC is seeking to follow God and that you will find where that feels most faithful to you. Our staff is deeply committed to overlapping in our work and collaborating often. Don’t be a stranger to the good things we are being called to throughout the many parts of WPC.
