The Westminster Choir is primarily a volunteer “parish choir” made up of college students and all ages of adults. While the choir includes some professional singers and others with formal music training, most members are not professional musicians. They are simply people who love to sing, wish to develop their musical skills, and desire to give their gift of song in service to the worship of God. Choir membership is open to all and only requires an initial voice placement evaluation with the director, Dr. John Semingson. John may be reached by email or at the church office, 292-5526, ext. 233.
The choir sings for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday service on all Sunday’s except the second Sunday of each month when they sing for the 8:30 a.m. worship service. Rehearsals for these services take place every Wednesday night, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. on the second Sunday. Both of these rehearsals are the basic requirement for all choir members to sing in the choir for services.
In addition to Sunday morning services, the Westminster Choir presents Choral Evening Prayer on All Saint’s Sunday each year and usually one Sunday during the seasons of Lent and/or Easter. These services may include a major choral work with orchestra or various anthems. An Advent Choral Service is presented during both morning services on the Fourth Sunday of Advent, and other festival choral services include Christmas Eve, the Sunday after Christmas, Easter, and Reformation Sunday.
The Westminster Choir welcomes any and all who desire to serve God and God’s people through singing to become a part of this friendly and dedicated group.
We rehearse every Wednesday night (August – May) in the Choir Room (M-300, 2nd floor above the main office), 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., except where noted to the contrary on the choir calendar.
Sunday morning rehearsals (August – May) are at 10:15 a.m. on all Sundays except the 2nd Sunday of the month when we rehearse at 7:45 a.m. and sing for the 8:30 a.m. worship service.
