Lent is just around the corner, when many Christians begin to think about a “Lenten sacrifice” to prepare us for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. But what were sacrifices in the ancient world supposed to do? Over the last few decades, fresh work from biblical scholars and ancient historians have upended what we thought we knew about sacrifice. In this study, we will consider what these new perspectives have to teach us about the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection.
