“The Theological Declaration of Barmen was unanimously adopted by the First Confessional Synod of the German Evangelical Church, held in Barmen, May 29-31, 1934, in order to withstand the errors of the “German Christians” and the Reich Church government. It was the theological basis of the “Confessing Church,” which resisted Hitler’s growing controlover German churches. It has become a marker of faithful Church witness since thattime and is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) Book of Confessions. What does ithave to say to us today?”
