The First Presbyterian Church, under the leadership of Pastor Thomas Verner Moore, organizes a mission church near the Gulch for the growing west side of town beyond the Gulch.

Sunday School begins near 12th & Broadway as a mission of Nashville’s First Presbyterian Church, 3 months after the death of Thomas Verner Moore.
June 6, 1872
Three trustees of the First Presbyterian Church buy property on Broadway for $4500 to locate the new church.
August 5, 1872
The congregation breaks ground for the new church.
November 23, 1873
In the midst of the Panic of 1873, Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church is formally organized with 45 founding members.
March 22, 1874
The permanent Moore Memorial building is completed, paid for and dedicated.

The Moore Memorial session votes to admit black members and provides separate seating for them.
